As the leaves begin to change, so too does our CISMA field crew! After having an incredibly successful summer pulling invasive species and well as surveying for them, our team is hanging up their brushed off boots and starting off on other adventures. Our crew lead Liz Brushaber is starting her first year at Colorado State University studying horticulture. She is very excited to start this next chapter in her education as well as add another degree to her resume. Dylan Golden, our other crew lead is moving back to Texas with his fiancé to be with his family. We were incredibly lucky to have such amazing leaders on our team this summer. As for our field members, Carli Huhn is beginning her second year at Lake Superior State University where she is studying Fisheries and Wildlife. She is also RA-ing on campus for her second year. Rowan is entering their third year at LSSU where they are studying Fisheries and Wildlife. They are also staying on with us this fall and potentially winter to help us with some of our restoration projects as well as HWA surveys. Also staying on the team will be Rex Scheele who is entering his third year at LSSU where he is studying Conservation Biology. Rowan and Rex will make quite the team this fall as they aid us in our endeavors. Jack Ware is going into his final year at Lake State where he will be completing his research on bats shortly! Lastly, Walter Anderson, the youngest on our team is entering his first year at Lake Superior State University! He will be studying Fisheries and Wildlife as well.
We are so thankful to our crew, past, present, and future, as they are the ones who help make our management goals a reality. This crew was especially spectacular as they pulled over 11,000 pounds of biomass this summer, paling the biomass of last summer. The summer of 2024 was a powerhouse summer no doubt and we are SO grateful to all seven of these wonderful people who helped make Chippewa, Mackinac, and Luce County a little nicer.
Since summer is coming to a close, it also means Knotweed treatments are beginning. Please submit Knotweed Treatment Request forms before September 1. You can find a digital form on this website under the resources tab.
Join us in giving a warm send off to the summer crew of 2024!!
